Knowing God pt 1
Topics: CommentaryEven in the garden, inward contemplation and the abundance of natural revelation were insufficient for communion with the God. The spoken Word, the divine voice, brought to man both knowledge of God and purpose. Romans 1and Psalm 19 tell us that after the Fall natural revelation declares the reality of God and testifies about His moral standards, but it is insufficient to bring the sinner into communion with the great I Am.
It is only by grace, through the redpeption that is in Christ Jesus, that we can be restored to fellowship with God. And this grace comes to us through God's special revalation, the Gospel of Scripture. Yes, the divine Word is not obtained by emptying the mind but by being filled with the Word of the Almighty God, and meditating on it day and night.
Food for thought:
- Deuteronomy 8:3 "He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.
- Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’"
- 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.
- Psalms 119:97 ¶ Mem. O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.
- Psalms 119:99 I have more insight than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.
